One of the most important functions of our program is to
partner with businesses to help them stay compliant with the
regulatory issues. A basic tenant of the OSHA protocol for
respirator protection states that if the workplace involves
exposure to hazardous dust, liquid, gas, fumes or others, than
Personal Protective Equipment is required. When this includes
ANY sort of respiratory protection, then OSHA protocol requires
medical certification, but also requires that the employee
receives a respirator fit test with the actual respiratory
protective equipment they will be using in the workplace.
The
essential parts of a respiratory program include having a Respirator
Questionnaire reviewed by a physician. In some cases, this questionnaire could
result in the employee being called in for a physical exam which usually
includes a pulmonary function test. On rare occasions for special
certifications, OSHA protocol could require chest X-rays or treadmill tests.
Physicians make their decisions based on these pre-determined protocols mandated
by state and federal guidelines.
We work with companies on a daily basis
providing OSHA respirator certification, respirator physicals and respirator fit
tests.
